Privacy Policy

Taika (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Taika mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use the App. By using Taika, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo through your Apple or Google sign-in provider. We also collect a unique device identifier to associate your device with your account.

Baby Profile Data. You provide information about your baby, including name, birth date, gender, avatar, prematurity status, gestational age, and preferred activity categories. You may also upload photos of your baby.

Activity Tracking Data. You log daily activities including:

  • Sleep times, durations, and nap/night classification
  • Feeding details (nursing duration, bottle amounts, solids, supplements)
  • Diaper changes (type, stool color, rash indicators)
  • Pumping sessions (volumes per side)
  • Growth measurements (weight, height, head circumference)
  • Temperature readings and medication logs
  • Routine activities (bath, tummy time, milestones, play)
  • Notes and photos attached to any activity

AI Interactions. If you use the Ask AI feature, we process your messages and any photos you attach. To provide personalized responses, we send a summary of your baby’s recent activity data (approximately 14 days) to our AI service along with your conversation history.

Device and Technical Data. We collect your device type, operating system version, app version, push notification tokens (APNs and FCM), and platform identifier to deliver notifications and maintain app functionality.

Information We Do Not Collect. We do not collect your location, contacts, browsing history, or any data from other apps on your device. We do not use advertising identifiers or serve ads.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate the App, including logging activities, syncing data across your devices, and sharing data with invited caregivers
  • Generate sleep predictions (DreamTime) based on your baby’s logged sleep patterns
  • Deliver personalized AI responses about your baby using the Ask AI feature
  • Provide weekly developmental insights tailored to your baby’s age
  • Send push notifications (e.g., timer reminders, sleep windows)
  • Process your subscription and manage premium feature access
  • Maintain, improve, and troubleshoot the App

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Caregivers You Invite. When you share a baby profile using an invite code, all caregivers linked to that baby can view and edit the baby’s profile, activity logs, and photos in real time. You control who has access by managing invite codes. Up to 8 caregivers can be linked to a single baby profile.

Service Providers. We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

  • Firebase (Google Cloud) — Authentication, real-time data synchronization, and push notifications
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — Backend API hosting (us-west-1 region), photo storage (S3), and database (DynamoDB)
  • RevenueCat — Subscription management and payment processing coordination with Apple App Store and Google Play

These providers process data only as necessary to provide their services and are bound by their own privacy policies.

Legal Requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored locally on your device and synced to our cloud infrastructure. Activity data and baby profiles are stored in Firebase Firestore and AWS DynamoDB. Photos are stored in Amazon S3. All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption. Data at rest is encrypted using the default encryption provided by Firebase and AWS.

Your authentication token is stored locally on your device and shared securely with app extensions (widgets, notifications) through an encrypted app group container.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the App settings. When you delete your account:

  • Your baby profiles, activity logs, and photos are permanently deleted from our servers
  • Your account information is removed from our authentication system
  • If you are the sole caregiver for a baby, that baby’s entire data is deleted
  • Locally stored data is cleared from your device

6. Children’s Privacy

Taika is designed for use by parents and caregivers, not by children. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13. All baby-related data is provided by and associated with an authenticated parent or caregiver account. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at privacy@taikababy.com and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time

8. International Data Transfers

Our backend services are hosted in the United States (AWS us-west-1). Firebase services are hosted across Google Cloud’s global infrastructure. If you are located outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.

9. Analytics and Tracking

We do not use third-party analytics services. Firebase Analytics and advertising features are disabled. We do not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use cookies in the App.

10. Camera and Photo Library

The App requests camera access solely to scan QR invite codes for caregiver sharing. Photo library access is used to save screenshots and to attach photos to activity logs or AI conversations. Photos you upload are stored in our cloud infrastructure and shared only with linked caregivers.

11. Push Notifications

We use Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to send you notifications such as timer reminders and sleep window alerts. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
